Val's Pocket Pikachu Diary
Day 1
He arrived
from Japan (Saitama-Ken to be exact) on 29th June 1998 at 5:30pm. Ooooooh Soooooo Cute!!! And looks like a Mini
GameBoy. I excitedly pulled out the tab in order to feed my poor little Pikachu that must be exhausted from his
long journey. Beep!!! And out come the words "Pocket Pikachu" and an icon of a Monster Ball beneath it.
Wow! Pikachu must be inside the ball I thought. Quick! How do I get him out? How do I feed it? And before I could
say "Jack Robinson", the words "POW!" appeared on screen and then it switch to a Japanese menu.
Shucks! What will I do? I fiddled with all the buttons and soon, I was setting the clock and turning off the alarm
like a pro. It's not too difficult. Cool! Now where is the little guy? Ah... there he is! And I wonder in amazement
how such a cute little fellow is simply made up of some pixels.
Okay.... so it's true you don't have to feed him, play with him and clean up his mess. Wonderful! But the problem
is I gotta walk him, get some coins to play the slots and win him some watts to charge him up. Sitting at the table
now, legs a little soft from all the excitement, I shook him in the palm of my hands. Got it up to about 50 watts.
Which is quite good considering 100 steps (or shakes in this case) = 5 watts.
Now what? (Hmmm... I was beginning to talk to myself) Okay, press the A button as I would in a GameBoy to confirm
something and scroll up the counter and feed him the watts. He yawned. Guess 50 watts isn't enough to even jolt
him. Ah well, it was almost 6 o' clock and I had to leave home. Put him into the Pocket Monster Protective Case
(which was a gift from Yuki), stuck it on my belt loop and off I went.
I had to walk more. Or at least get the counter up. I wanted to see him do stuff. In the car, at the traffic lights
(thank heavens for these), I pressed the A button again and what d'ya know, he was taking a shower.
Shook him again for a few moments then had to drive off. At the next junction, he was brushing his teeth.
Then finally when I reached my destination and could give him all the attention, he was asleep. SIGH!!! |
Day 2
Picked
him up at 9am. He was walking around. Didn't have time to check on him till 2pm and when I did, his back was facing
me. Pikachu was angry. I had not walked him at all and left him sitting in my bag. I then picked him up, stuck
him on my waist and was busy again the rest of the day. |
Checked on him at 4:30pm, he was playing with sand. |
At 5:50pm, he was eating. |
At 6:45pm and then again at 6:50pm, he was watching TV. |
What a life I thought. Had a dinner and movie date today and by the time I was done, at 12 midnight, he was asleep.
I neglected him again today. Shook him vigorously while he was snoring and whey... he woke up. To show him how
sorry I was for waking him up. I gave him 300 watts and he wrote me a letter. Immediately after, he was all tucked
in and asleep again. |
Day 3
Peeked
at him throughout the day and saw him doing many new things. In the morning, he played with blocks and was trying
to build a house with it. |
Exactly at noon, he had lunch and then moments later, he was playing with sand again. At 2pm, I caught him with
a lollipop. Wonder who gave it to him? My baby... when are you going to grow up and realize that sweets are bad
for your teeth. |
I had a tea-break at 3:50pm and since I had time and had collected enough watts, I decided to give him a 500 watt
zap! Hee Hee Hee... it's so funny to see him flip like that. He actually did a somersault for me in gratitude. |
Checked on him again at 4:30pm and Ha! He was learning to
drive in what looks like an F1 sports car. He does have expensive tastes this guy. The rest of the evening, my
baby became a couch potato and watched all the cartoons he could catch on TV. Then when I wasn't aware, he must
have taken a shower, brushed his teeth and tucked himself in bed. Good Nite Pikachu! |
Day 4
Pikachu
learns to read today at 3:45pm. But I noticed that for the rest of the day, he was just playful. Playing with sand
and building blocks (still didn't succeed in building that house)... watched TV (lots of it)... and then had a
sandwich before bedtime. Guess he's still a kid! |
Also, gave him 500 watts twice today. Once in the morning and once at night. Ha! Ha! That's because I finally did
win the 777 jackpot, not once but twice. Guess I was just lucky as I still don't have a clue as to how I did it.
Much less repeat it. Twice he showed his gratitude by presenting me with a heart. Oh! That angelic face just makes
me melt and wanna try harder at getting more watts for him. |
Day 5
Woke him up at 4:30am this morning. Had to see if it could be done and if he was going to
be grouchy. But apparently not. He woke up and got into his car and practiced driving again. Must have been dreaming
about it or something. I felt bad afterwards and gave him 500 watts. He gave me a heart again. He walked around
for about half an hour or so and then when I checked him later, we had gone back to bed and was snoring away. |
At 6:15pm, I noticed that he was riding a bike. Hmmm... wonder who lent it to him. |
Oh! I noticed today that I could disturb him while he is playing blocks. He tries so hard to build that house but
when I tap him, the block falls to the ground. Ha! Ha! Did that to him twice today. Sorry Pikachu but I just wanted
to see if it worked that way. |
Day 6
Walked quite a bit today just to get the watts up and was lucky to have gotten 777 too. So
in all, since I had 1,114 watts, I decided to give him 999 watts which is the max. Wheeeee..... Pikachu went Hang
Gliding after that. Did it like a pro too considering it's his first time. Or rather, the first time I'm seeing
him do it. Too bad, lost the rest of the watts at slots and couldn't give him anymore. |
Day 7
Pikachu was playful today and every time I peeked at him, he was either playing with sand
(about 4 times), building blocks (6 times), cycling or reading (well, 1 out of 4 isn't so bad). He was also given
a lolli today and being experimental (hee - what a nice way to put it!) I tried knocking it down when he was licking
it and what d'ya know, I succeeded! So the tapping thing works :D |
Accumulated quite a lot of watts by walking (and shaking - yeah! I cheated 'cause I couldn't win slots today) and
gave him 999 watts again. This time, he went swimming with the little fishies. They swam for a while together on
screen but when the 2 fishes swam away, he went after them and was gone. |
Day 8
Saw Pikachu eating something different this morning. He was eating rice cakes for breakfast
(or at least what I thought it looks like). Hmmm.... must be missing his Japanese roots. Horrible luck at slots
again today and since I only had 504 watts, I gave him 500. Sad thing was that I pressed the buttons too quickly
and didn't get to see his reaction. It switched to alarm and then went off. Arrrrgh!!! |
Day 9
99,999... that's the total number of footsteps I made that was recorded.
But now the counter is stuck! I wonder why? Can't move... no matter how much more I walk or shake it and I wonder
if this is the case because Pikachu is going to be at his 2nd phase tomorrow. I certainly hope so. And that he's
not defective. Sob! Sob! He's sleeping so soundly now... guess I gotta wait till tomorrow to see what happens.
Please be all right PIKACHU!!! |
Day 10
Hooray! Pikachu is all right. Nothing was wrong... it's just that the counter
stops at 99,999. The programmers must have expected everyone to reset their counter at the beginning of each day.
Phew! the total counter (where you tell his moods) is the one that's important - now I see. Guess he's not grown
yet and does the same 'ol... same 'ol... so I'm saving the watts to see better things when he grows up. Can't wait
to see him sit at a computer (which I hear he will) *smile*. |
Day 11
Collected watts for him. Still got a total of 1400 watts after giving him 400 watts and saw
him do a flip for me. Figured my timing for the first 2 reels of slots but the last reel is really difficult.
For me...
- Reel One: Stop at the 7 that's closest to the other 7 (there are three of 'em in
this reel).
- Reel Two: Stop at the flower.
- Reel Three: I still don't know - the timing seems different always.
SIGH!
|
Day 12 and 13
Got more watts from slots today. Matthias is right (Thanks!)... the reels do move slower
and you don't have to be so accurate if you've stopped playing it for a while or if Pikachu really needs watts.
I didn't give Pikachu any watts for 2 days and noticed that I had better luck. Now the counter stands at 3,100
watts. But Pikachu is unhappy. Poor Baby! |
Saw him yawn for the first time at around noon today. Getting lazy? |
Day 14
Decided to pamper Pikachu today. What's the use of the accumulated watts
if the poor baby is sad. Gave him all my watts and this is what I got. |
200 watts - He did a little dance for me.
300 watts - He held a heart above his head. |
400 watts - He wrote me a letter.
500 watts - He did a flip. |
700 watts - He walked back and forth with a trumpet in his hand.
800 watts - A trumpet march too. |
Day 15
Haa! Haa!!! Tried something funny today and got a funny reaction from Pikachu. Gave him zero
watts. Zero... zilch... nada! And look what he did to me. Puh! |
Day 16 and 17
Nothing new from Pikachu again...Oh...when are you going to grow up? Quick...
I can't wait! So, I accumulated watts again. Now have a total of 2,828 watts waiting to give him to see new stuff.
The total footsteps I made to date is 147,502. Sure is alot of walking... *smile* |
Day 18, 19 and 20
Finally!!! On the 20th day... Pikachu did something new for me after I gave him 999 watts.
He balanced on a beach ball and walked from right to left and then back again. His total count is now 163,552 and
I won 777 at slots today so he has 1,847 watts left, after I gave him another 700 watts and took him for a swim
before bed. |
Day 21
Saw Pikachu flying a kite this evening. He walked 3 times across the screen and was so happy.
For showing me a new thing, I decided to reward him with a 999 watt zap and hey! what d'ya know... another new
thing. |
He played me a song on his piano. You're the greatest Pikachu! |
Day 22
Must be growing up 'cause he's certainly got an appetite. Ate a whole bowl of rice today
for dinner. |
In the evening, he tried to ride a bicycle. Unfortunately, the bike seemed to big for him so all he could do was
climb up, toot the horn and then come down. Hee! Hee! The bike didn't even move an inch. |
Day 23
Noticed that Pikachu played the trumpet several times this evening. Previously, I had to
give him watts to do this but now he does it himself. Guess he is musically inclined or likes to show off :D He
also reads the book more often now. In the morning, at noon after lunch, in the evening, and before bed. Wonder
what he likes... Romance? Fantasy? |
Day 24
Hey! Pikachu must have gotten taller because he is now able to ride the bicycle across the
screen. Total footsteps to date is 192,148. But he is unhappy today because I neglected him again. |
Day 25, 26, 27 and 28
It's been 4 days. Why oh why haven't you done anything new Pikachu? I am rather disappointed.
I thought you were going to grow up quickly, get married and start a family - ha! ha! just kidding!
Reset Pikachu's counter again today. He reached 99,999 for the second time tonight. Hey! grow up quick kiddo. I'm
getting impatient. What'cha staring at? |
Day 29 and 30
HAPPY ONE MONTH, PIKACHU!!! And to celebrate his one month anniversary, he balanced on a
ball and walked across the screen several times till he was tired then pushed the ball. So cute you are.
But I wonder why this ball is smaller than the one you used previously.
Gave you
watts, lots of it as presents today and naturally, that made you exceptionally happy. Still have 5407 watts saved
up
for you. Total accumulated footsteps after a month - 237,165. |
Day 31 and 32
Gave Pikachu all of the 5,407 watts just to see if the happiness level could be like accumulated.
But nope. The next day, he was back to being unhappy again 'cause I neglected him. So don't waste all your watts
in one go - that's my advice. It took me so many days to accumulate that and I blew it all in 3 minutes just to
see the same 'ol actions.
Only noticed last night that next to the total footsteps counter that there was this small icon which is like a
mini pikachu. Hmmm.... didn't think it was there before but I'm really not sure.5. |
Day 33 - Day 39
Pikach finally reached the magical 300,000 footsteps where he supposedly
has grown up and can do lots more stuff. |
And the first new thing he did today was to appear in a skateboard. |
After this, he showed me he loves me by voluntarily giving me a heart. This was usually what he did if I gave him
watts but not today. It was on his own accord. Oh! I love you too Pikachu. |
A while later, I saw him playing with a remote control car. He looked so cute turning around in circles trying
to see where the car was going. Pikachu has so many toys. Makes me wonder where he gets his money from. |
Day 41
Pikachu went to school again today but this time, he was in the morning
session as there was geography to be learnt. Today's topic was about the ancient pyramids but all Pikachu could
think of was his sandcastles. Well, who can blame him. There are after all similarities.
|
Day 42
After hours and hours of practice this evening, Pikachu learns how to do the "throw-out"
trick with his yo-yo. Not without a little tapping help from me though. Not bad! Keep it up boy and soon you might
be able to "walk the dog". Total footsteps to date is 333,618. And accumulated watts is 7,316. He is
Happy! |
Day 43
Pikachu baby took his first bath today. I added lotsa bubble bath into the
tub and left him to play there for about 10 minutes before bedtime. Oooooh... he was having so much fun in the
tub! When I knocked the door (tapped the Pocket Pikachu) to say that it's time to get out and brush his teeth,
all he did was turn around and stare at me. Think I'll buy him a rubber ducky tomorrow.
|
Day 44 - 48
Like his brother in Germany, Pikachu ate an ice-cream cone today. He likes
a vanilla and chocolate twist. And so do I.
Unfortunately though, as I was watching him savour his ice cream, my nephew runs by and jabs me in the back. This
sudden jerk made Pikachu drop his ice cream cone. And all my poor baby did was to look up at me in disappointment.
Had to walk back to the 7-Eleven to buy him another cone. Sigh!
|
Day 49 - 50
Pikachu came up close and personal today after he became more friendly when
I gave him 999 watts. He'll stare blankly at first, then after a while when he notices that I'm looking at him,
he'll wave to me. Total accumulated watts reached the maximum of 9,999 today. So Pikachu... you're gonna be in
for a real treat soon.
|
Day 51 - 54
Tired of being called "Shorty" by his friends, Pikachu decided
to try walking on stilts today just to get a feeling of what it's like to be tall. "Difficult....umm...very
difficult!"... he says. Ha! Ha! He only manages a couple of steps each time. But determination and perseverance
will help him master this I'm sure.
|
Day 55 - 58
Pikachu surfed on down to the EAGB homepage today! And that was the first thing he did when
his PII 450 MHz Computer arrived this morning. Whoa! he's got a PC even better than mine that spoilt fella! Still,
since PCs get outdated so quickly, he might as well have gotten the best. |
Day 60 - 80
It's been 20 days and Pikachu has been to Hong Kong and back with me but he hasn't done anything
new. It seems to me that he is regressing. Going back to riding a bicycle... his pedal car... the unicycle (found
it that he wasn't trying to balance on a ball after all). So maybe there is nothing new that he can do. How Sad!
To date, he has accumulated a total of 624,936 footsteps. He is friendly and
happy. And has 9,999 watts in his slots counter.
I Love You Pikachu! :D |
