Introduction
Oh dear. It seems as though the Donkey Kong Land series is beginning to
grow on me. Donkey Kong Land 3: Race Against Time sees you as Dixie Kong and Kiddy Kong, who are out to search
for the 'Lost World' and make a huge cash prize while they're at it! They'll have to be quick though, Donkey and
Diddy are searching too!
Game Play
Let me say this first of all: I am extremely pleased with Donkey Kong Land 3. It is easily the best of the Donkey
Kong Land trilogy, and the reason for this is because there's just so much to do, but it's fun too! All problems
that I had with DKL1 are gone; the characters are easy to see, the scroll-down death is gone, even the sound seems
to have been improved! Although there can be a few sprite glitches when I was running or swimming with Dixie or
Kiddy, but it may just be my game only.
What impresses me too is that DKL3 is an entirely new story. Whereas DKL2 was almost a carbon copy of it's bigger
SNES brother, DKL3 takes place in entirely new areas, and new stages to visit. If you race through the levels though,
you'll miss the many hidden secrets which will help you access the 'true' ending. This both good and bad: good
in the sense that the replay value is huge, bad in the sense that finding every single secret in the game can get
very frustrating at times!! And then, just when you think you've beaten all Rare can throw at you, along comes
something ELSE... you'll see what I mean.
Another thing that makes the game truly fun is the ability to ride or change into various animals. There's a huge
spider that sports sneakers and can shoot out webbing and a parrot that can spit eggs at enemies to attack.
Final Comments
Donkey Kong Land 3 is a HUGE improvement over DKL1 and 2. It's worth playing whether you're new to the whole DK
series, or you've played either a SNES or Gameboy game and loved it. I really wasn't sure about this one, especially
seeing I had such a bad taste with DKL1, but I can assure you that this is, quite simply, one helluva game. Congratulations
