Introduction
Aaah....the mistranslateth one returneth! That's right, Goemon and his odd team are back in an RPG in the vein
of Zelda. Or so you would believe. The only thing that is the same as Zelda in this game is that it's an Action
RPG. Other than that, it's a shocker.
As Goemon and his team, you are trying to unravel the mysteries of the 'Black Ship Gang' who steal everything.
One woman is even worried that they'll steal her! You must make your way through various chapters (there are 5
in all) until you reach the end and beat the bosses along the way.
Game Play
Gameplay in MNSG is very difficult as instead of being able to walk in eight directions, like in Zelda, you are
only able to travel in four. This restricts your movement immensely as you need to move quickly sometimes and you
just can't get out of the way in time.
Although you can interact with people in the game, they just give you silly responses, often leaving you in the
dark with no clue on what to do next or where to go. It can really be frustrating, to the point where you just
want to throw your GameBoy against the wall.
Another irritating feature is the fact that you cannot save! Instead, you are given a password feature at the end
of each chapter - or I think so... I never got past chapter 1. Add to the fact that enemies do not leave behind
health EVER and that you must buy it from inns or shops which are few and far between, and you've got yourself
one very annoying game.
The bosses are also extremely difficult. Once you beat them, you must challenge them to a special challenge. It's
very difficult because if you lose, it's game over. And the first boss is very difficult. Do you remember those
old track-and-field games where you had to mash the buttons repeatedly like you were having a seizure? You must
race him like that.
Final Comments
Ugh... I really wish that I'd never bought this game. It promises so much, yet it delivers so little. I wouldn't
buy it even if it was in the bargain bin, which is where it rightfully belongs. Well, this just goes to show you
that not all GameBoy games out there are good. I'd give it a lower score, but I don't think I can. |
