Introduction

Well, I'm sure that everyone knows the story line for Pokemon by now. For those that don't, however, I'll go over it again.

You are a young lad who wishes to capture and train every single Pokemon (or Pocket Monster) in the entire world. You also want to become a Pokemon Master and beat the most talented trainers on Indigo Plateau, including the famous Elite Four, but it won't be easy.

Along the way you'll constantly encounter your rival, whom you've known since you were a child, and you'll also encounter many evil characters such as the infamous Team Rocket who use Pokemon for evil.

Game Play

What's different about the game play? Not much. Apart from a few subtle changes (such as different probability of Pokemon appearing and the places where they appear) nothing much has been changed in the way of game play.

If you and a friend both have Pokemon Yellow, you can both challenge each other to a FAIR fight in the new 'Colluseum 2'. This Colluseum has restrictions to the amount of Pokemon you can bring in and the levels that they are, just to make the battle more interesting.

Differences

Although game play remains the same, Pokemon Yellow is a little different from the Red and Blue Version.

Firstly, some of the bugs that were present in Red and Blue have been fixed (not to mention the 'truck' near the St. Anne). But more importantly, the story line has been changed slightly too.

It now adheres closely to the cartoon's, in that you get Pikachu as your first Pokemon and it follows you around everywhere.

Characters from the cartoon have also been included, such as Nurse Joy, Officer Jenny, Damien (the guy who abandons his Charmander) and of course, Jesse, James and Meowth of Team Rocket.

Along with the added story line, there is also improved art. Yes, the gym leaders have been re-drawn. If you take a look, you'll notice that Misty and Brock now look like they do in the cartoon.

Professor Oak's Pokedex seems to have been upgraded too. Not only has the Pokemon art been updated, but the little snippets of information for each Pokemon has been changed too, which for some, is reason enough to start collecting those cute little monsters all over again!

Pokemon data can now also be printed out via the GameBoy Printer, and it comes out pretty clearly.

Now, you must all be wondering why this version is called, 'Pikachu edition'. The answer is simple... Pikachu! That's right, the cute little fellow actually tags along with you on the screen during your adventure.

Face him and press A, and Pikachu will talk to you and show you what mood it's in by its facial expressions. Yes, thanks to Nintendo's programmers, we know get to actually hear Pikachu voice in all its digitized glory. For example, try talking to him after you win a trainer battle, or after he comes out of a battle paralyzed or poisoned. And wait until you go into the Pokemon fan club!

Final Comments

So what's the verdict? Well, Pokemon Pikachu Edition is nothing new (it's the same game, there are NO new Pokemon, so PLEASE stop telling me there are!) but it is a lot of fun.

Basically, it's Pokemon Red and Blue with sugar on top. If you're new to Pokemon, a Pikachu fan or impatiently waiting for Pokemon Gold and Silver, then this should keep you busy for a while!

If you're sick of hearing the words 'Pokemon' and 'Pikachu', then you probably should go buy another copy of Rampage: World Tour.
