Some would say that the GameBoy has finally found it's ultimate calling. What I'd say
is that it is the perfect way to devote your time to Bible studies without having your friends and family even
know that you're taking time off for God's word. Imagine, taking out a GameBoy during a sermon for reference, what
would the congregation or even the priest think. Ha! Ha!
Wisdom Tree (a Christian group that makes God's word easily accessible to gamers on the Sega Genesis,
Super Nintendo and the GameBoy) is God send. Because with these two carts, not only can you read the entire Bible,
look up Bible verses but also play Bible games.
The King James Version comes with 2 Bible word games. And the NIV (New International Version) comes with 2 Bible
word games and an extra arcade style game called Twenty Lost Levels of Joshua.
The Bible:
Similar in both except for the different versions. Put simply, one with "Thee and Thou" and the other
in "I and You". Scrolling through the pages is easy. Either with each line or with each page. There is
even a word search and phrase search should you require it. The search is quick, detailed and accurate too.
The Bible word games are:
Word Match - a challenging game that teaches you Bible words and improves your memory at the same time. On the
screen, you will see two sets of words. They are then seperated and jumbled. You are required to remember what
you saw earlier and match 'em up. Match 3 words in a row and get 3 cherries as a bonus. Fun and challenging!
Bible Shepherd - an excellent way to familiarise yourself with new Bible words and their spelling. Puh! When I
played this, there were many words that I've never seen, much less think they'd be in the Bible. This game is similar
to the all familiar hang-man game excapt that you save sheep instead. You are required to guess the word by selecting
letters from the alphabet. One wrong guess and the sheep comes out the farm. Two wrong guesses and it runs away.
However, one wrong guess followed by a right guess puts the sheep back inside. A nice twist to an old game.
Twenty Lost Levels of Joshua - A one or two player platform game. You must use the priest's trumpet, toot it and
defeat enemies so that Joshua can collect Bible questions and gather enough iron, brass and gold to complete each
level. What I found cute was that when I got the Armour of God, I was temporarily blast proof. When I got The Lord's
Favour, I was enemy proof. And when I doubted God's Plan, I was halted. Hmmm... such realism. Despite the simple
graphics and the fact that it was just like a regular platform game which started out so easy, I was impressed
with the ingenuity of it altogether. |
